Drivers License Restoration For Second DUI Conviction
If the suspension is the result of a second DUI conviction in Connecticut,
the duration of suspension is one year from the effective date of
suspension. However, if the operator is under 21 years of age, the
duration of suspension is three years from the effective date of
suspension or until the date of the operator's 21st birthday, whichever is
longer.
Before a license can be restored, the operator must have completed a
Substance Abuse Treatment Program, approved by the Commissioner
of Motor Vehicles. Contact one of the following providers that conduct the
program for DMV promptly as the minimum period of participation is
approximately nine months.
1) The Commonwealth Group 1-800-257-9990 or 860-645-0553
2) Community Solutions 1-888-368-0368
3) Connecticut Renaissance, Inc. 866-665-5171
4) MCCA 203-792-4515
5) Phoenix Houses of New England 866-456-629
Additionally, following restoration of the operator's license, no motor
vehicle may be operated for a period of twenty-four months unless it is
equipped with an approved Ignition Interlock Device. Operators under
21 years of age are not eligible for participation in the Ignition Interlock
Program.
Prior to the eligibility date for restoration, information will be mailed to
the operator's address of record concerning procedures for achieving
restoration and approval for an Ignition Interlock Device.
Before a license can be restored, a check or money order in the amount
of $125, payable to "DMV", must be mailed, along with any necessary
documents at least two weeks prior to the eligibility date to the following
address:
State of Connecticut
Department of Motor Vehicles
Ignition Interlock Device Unit
55 West Main Street
Waterbury, CT 06702
Note: Please clearly print your name, current address and date of birth
on all correspondence. You cannot operate a motor vehicle until you
receive an official notice from the Department of Motor Vehicles
informing you that the restoration has been processed following
installation of the Ignition Interlock Device.
